What is Oat Bran?
Bran is the hard outer layer of a cereal grain. So it can come from oats, corn, wheat, rice, barley or millet. Some nutritional value is removed from grains when the bran is removed, making this a good addition to your diet if you are trying to get healthy.
Why is it good for you?
It is rich in dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. It helps makes you feel full faster, especially if you have a tall glass of water before and after your meal, and it slows down sugar and fat absorption.
How can you eat it?
You can put it over your hot cereal, mix into cookies, pizza dough, and muffins, sprinkle it over yogurt, or like me, use them to make flourless pancakes!
Here's a healthy, delicious breakfast that will provide enough energy for a morning work out or to just get you through your morning! You won't even miss the flour and sugar!
1/4 cup Oat Bran
1 large banana
1 tsp. vanilla
chopped pineapples, fresh
a few mint leaves
1 tablespoon agave syrup or honey
1 tablespoon chia seeds
- Mash Banana. Add oat bran, egg, chia seeds and vanilla and mix well.
- Cook as you would regular pancakes. This recipe makes 2 medium sized pancakes.
- Arrange chopped pineapple on top and sprinkle mint leaves.
- Top off with agave syrup or honey and serve with a smile!
